Dr. Leland Leon Pool, age 86, passed on November 25, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Atlanta, he moved as a teenager to Winder where he met Betty, his wife of 64 years.  Dr. Pool graduated from Mercer University Magna Cum Laude, served in the Navy Medical Corps, earned his MD degree at the Medical College of Georgia and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  After 3 years of family practice in South Carolina, he returned to Augusta to specialize in anesthesia.  Upon completing his residency, he came to Gainesville in 1960 and joined Dr. Calvin Allen in his practice.  He retired in 1992 after 32 years as an anesthesiologist at N.E. Georgia Medical Center.  He also served a term as president of the Georgia Society of Anesthesiology. The greatest of his joys was spending time with his family, especially vacations at the beach.

Leland is survived and already missed by his wife, Betty and family.  He had a lasting and loving impact on the lives of his three daughters and their spouses: Janet and Bruce Roper, Cathy and Lawson Holland, and Nancy Pool.  His kindness and humor will be missed by his six grandchildren and their spouses: Will Roper and Marti; Lee Roper; Jake Holland and Jenn; Katie Holland and Jeff; Braden Nichols and Jesse and Corbin Nichols.  His five beloved great-grandchildren are Grady, Marion, Meredith, Emily, and Molly.  Survivors also include brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sam and Linda Elrod and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Dr. Pool was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville and a faithful member of the Anglers Sunday School Class.  A Memorial service will be led by his pastor and friend, Dr. Bill Coates at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2016 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor.
