Dr. Lonnie Gordon Pope

Dr. Lonnie Gordon Pope, 78 of Gainesville passed away Wednesday January 24, 2018 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Dr.  Pope was born in Douglas, Ga. and had lived there for a number of years before moving to Hall County.  He was the son of the late Wright and Maebelle Vickers Pope.  Dr. Pope was the owner and operator of Game World.  Dr. Pope had his doctorate in divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Seminary and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he also taught Sunday School.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Suellen Pope, Gainesville; son and fiancé, Rev. Chris Pope and Teri Smith, Gainesville; grandchildren, Michelle (Daniel), Stephen, Lauren; brother and sister-in-law, George "Mac" and Pat Pope.

Dr. Pope is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gordon Pope.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday January 26, 2018 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Rev. Chris Pope and Rev. JoJo Thomas will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Hillside Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 6-8 p.m. and again Friday 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday January 27, 2018 in Douglas, Georgia at the Carver Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 989 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville, Ga. 30501.
