Harold Lincoln Easterbrooks

Harold Lincoln Easterbrooks, DVM, passed away of natural causes at the age of 91 on March 26, 2017 in Gainesville, GA. Lincoln was born on October 24, 1925, in Worcester, Massachusetts to Isaac Harold Easterbrooks and Anne Victoria Berggren Easterbrooks. He grew up with one brother, Henry, and spent much of his childhood working on the ancestral farm in Dudley, Massachusetts. He graduated from Bartlett High School and The Ohio State University, earning his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1948. He was a veterinary practitioner, a professor and researcher, and a specialist in veterinary pharmaceuticals until his retirement. He was well-known in the poultry industry of Hall County. As a youth, he was active in many service organizations, such as the Boy Scouts, the Grange, and 4-H, a passion he maintained throughout his life as a member of the JAYCEEs and the Elks. He was also a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

He married Norma Plimpton (now deceased) on June 21, 1947 and was the proud father of four daughters. Scientist that Lincoln was, he thought in numbers and fondly referred to his eldest daughter, Cheryl Easterbrooks (68), as Number 1, his daughter Susan Easterbrooks (66) as Number 2, his daughter Sandra Cratty (61) as Number 3, and his youngest daughter Sara Murphy (deceased at age 42) as Number 4 and introduced them to others by number, but he loved each of them in equal measure. All three of his living daughters are residents of Gainesville. In addition, he is survived by his sons-in-law, Dewey Troutman (husband of Susan Easterbrooks), Steve Cratty (husband of Sandra), and Leslie Murphy (husband of deceased daughter, Sara); by four grandchildren, Brian Shiver (wife, Kristi Shiver), Sara Shiver, Anne Victoria Murphy Bayles (husband Michael Bayles), and William Troutman (wife Katherine Troutman); and by five great grandchildren, Isaac Shiver (15), Lily Shiver (13), Michael Bayles (3), Sara Bayles (2), and Hudson Shiver (1).  He was also devoted to his two nieces, Jean Easterbrooks Jacobson of Massachusetts and Bonnie Easterbrooks Krist of Ohio.

Lincoln was a fervent fan of The Ohio State University and the University of Georgia football teams as well as the University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team. He was an avid golfer and a dedicated boater, and was usually seen wearing his captain’s hat.

The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, March 30 from 5 to 7 at the Clubhouse at 130 Senior Circle, Gainesville, GA. A brief service and interment of his ashes in the columbarium will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Gainesville, on Friday, March 31 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the Webster Masonic Lodge (Webster, MA), or to Grace Episcopal Church.
