Henry T. "Jeep" Woodliff

Mr. Henry Thomas “Jeep” Woodliff, 101, of Gainesville died Friday, March 24, 2017, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born September 11th, 1915 in Flowery Branch, Georgia to the late Major Buford Woodliff and Julia Boyd Woodliff, Henry was a member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville and the American Legion. Henry was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked and later served on the islands of Tarawa and Saipan with the Signal Corps. He retired from Southern Bell (AT&T) after 44 years of service.

Throughout his life, Henry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, riding his tractor and fixing anything that needed fixing. Upon retirement at age 65, he took up golf and became quite good, often able to shoot his age. In later years he enjoyed shooting pool with friends at the First Baptist Family Life Center.

Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Betty Phillips Woodliff, his sisters Faye Woodliff Smith of Atlanta and Josephine Woodliff of Flowery Branch, and brothers Major Woodliff of Marietta, Ben Woodliff of Cartersville and Grady Woodliff of Gainesville.

He is survived by a sister, Betty Woodliff Duncan of Doraville, daughters Sheryl Creek (Jim) of Columbus, GA and Jane Fite (Pat) of Decatur, AL; grandchildren Courtney Blenkinsop (Peter) Silver Spring, MD, Carson Creek (Tiffany) Bradenton, FL, Davis Fite (Elise) San Diego, CA, and Thomas Fite (Alexandra) Santa Clarita, CA; great grandchildren Evan, Wesley & Kailen Blenkinsop and Olivia Creek, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank friend and caregiver Carolyn Shanley, nephew Wes Phillips and the entire staff at Ashton Senior Living for all the love and care given to both Henry and Betty. They are also very appreciative of the efforts of Hospice of Northeast Georgia in his final days.

Visitation will be Monday, March 27th from 11:00am to 12:30pm at Little & Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, followed by a graveside service at Alta Vista Cemetery at 1:00pm, Dr. Bill Coates officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Paul E. Bolding American Legion Post #7 or the First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
