A celebration of his life will be held at Dunagan Chapel United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Georgia on August 8, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.

Mr. Barre was born on November 25, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  In 1942, his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia.  He was preceded in death by his parents Marc Anthony and Isabelle Theard Barre.  Kenneth Barre is survived by his wife of 65 years, Laura Kohlman Barre; his daughter and son-in-law Anne and Gordon Higgins of Talmo; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth Marc Barre, Jr and Debbie of Marietta; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Scott Krieg of Dunwoody; his brother and sister-in-law Shelby Barre and Sara of Hockessin, Delaware; his brother and sister-in-law Dennis Barre and Margaret of Seneca, South Carolina; his brother-in-law Conrad Kohlman and wife Anne of Amelia Island, Florida; Grandchildren Daryl Higgins, Jennifer Torres, Jeffrey Higgins, Kenneth Barre, III, Jim Barre, Tom Barre, Scott Krieg, Jr., Sally Krieg; and 6 Great Grandchildren: Travis, Sammy, Katie, Shannon, Will, and Avery.

After graduating from Georgia Tech in 1951, Mr. Barre went into the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant, receiving his commission following completion of ROTC at Tech. Just before shipping out to Korea, he married the love of his life, Laura Carter Kohlman in Atlanta on August 2, 1952.  They had begun their courtship when he was a student at Georgia Tech and she was a senior in high school.  They had planned to wed on September 13, Laura’s birthday, but the date had to be moved up when Lt. Barre got his orders to report to begin his tour of duty in Korea.

Following his military service, Mr. Barre returned to the Atlanta area and began a career at Lockheed Aircraft that lasted 38 years.  He was totally devoted to his wife Laura and their three children, Anne, Marc, and Laura.  That love and devotion then extended to his eight grandchildren and his six great grandchildren.

Kenneth and Laura Barre had come often to the East Hall community to picnic and hunt on farm land that has been in the Buffington-Dunagan family since 1799.  It is a place that they truly cherished.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Kenneth Barre to Dunagan Chapel United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Georgia.
