Captain Eschen was a always a welcome visitor in my office. Once he learned that I teach French, he generously shared photos taken in France during and post-war. He loved languages (he once sent me a document showing how to say "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" in 100 different languages) and history. His kindness and giving spirit will not be forgotten! My condolences to the family!

God bless and rest in peace. Larry was such a kind and gentle man. He presented a Windows Cook book to me and my wife Angie uses it often. He will be missed around campus and will always be in my thoughts, heart and prayers.

I'll miss Larry. Many were the times that he visited the campus of Brenau University, always ready with a joke. He had great WW2 stories to tell, speaking of a life that was filled with service and adventure. Being born at the same time as my own father, they both served during World War II in Europe, only on opposite sides of the front. It gave me great pride to supplement his photo collection with shots that my Dad took in the 1940's also.
Larry was not only a father figure with thoughtful insights about American and German history, he was also a wonderful supporter of Brenau's Academy and Women's College students. He took great pleasure in surprising us with a check whenever he became aware of some urgent needs -- be it T-shirts for an athletic team, or electronic equipment lacking in an office, or whatever. Faces would always light up when his voice was heard coming down the hall, because he never failed to spread good cheer and humorous remarks, brightening people's day at the office.
To the family and friends of Larry's, whom I do not know, I think I can speak for all those of us who were acquainted with him on campus. He will be sorely missed but always remembered most fondly. His kindness, and his personal philanthropy, exemplify the Brenau Ideal so aptly worded by H.J Pearce:
"To find satisfaction in being rather than in seeming;
To find joy in doing rather than in dreaming."
