Mabel (Bumby) Roberts

Mabel Bumby Roberts, 95, of Fruitland Park, Florida, formerly of Wauchula passed away on Tuesday , August 25, 2015.  Mabel was born July 16, 1920 in Orlando to Jesse Bumby, Jr. and Maxie R. Bumby.  During her childhood, she lived in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.  She married Starling I. "Speedy" Roberts, Sr. in 1941 in Phenix City, Alabama.  His Army career moved them to Georgia, Alaska, and New York.  Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1961, they moved to Wauchula.  She lived in Wauchula until 2012 when she moved to Fruitland Park.  She was a homemaker and helped many people over the years.  Mabel was preceded in death ny her husband, Starling I. Roberts, Sr.; a son, Starling I. Roberts, Jr.; and a grandson, John W. Roberts.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmie (Sheree) Roberts of Leesburg, FL and Jesse (Diane) Roberts of Fruitland Park; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Banks of Winter Park.

Visitation will be held at the Beyers Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 9:00-10:00 am, Funeral services will follow at 10:00 am, Pastor Ken Dembeck officiating.  Interment will be in the Alta Vista Cemetery, Monday August 31, 2015 at 10:00 am.
