Max E. (Gene) McGuffey

Max E. (Gene) McGuffey, 83, of Murrayville, GA passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.  Rev. Steve Baker and Rev. Jeff Ertzberger will officiate.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral. 

Mr. McGuffey is preceded in death by his parents, William Max and Dannie Mae McGuffey, his wife of 62 years, Gwen McGuffey, his brothers, Royce and Farrell McGuffey, and his grandson, Michael McGuffey.

Mr. McGuffey is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Nan McGuffey of Palmetto; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jeff Ertzberger of Murrayville; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Kenneth Ward of Zebulon; sister, Nelda Gosman of Zebulon; granddaughters, Kristen McGuffey and Laney Ertzberger; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. McGuffey was a Navy veteran who served on the USS Fletcher from 1952-1956.  PawPaw was a devoted, loving, and caring husband, father, and grandfather.   He served as a deacon at Highland Baptist Church and McIntosh Baptist Church in Griffin, Georgia.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
