Mildred (Hunt) Simmons

Mildred Hunt Simmons, 91 of Lula, Ga. passed away on March 7, 2018 as a result of an extended illness. 

Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Lula High School.  She graduated from the University of Georgia with her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and later received her Specialist degree in Early Childhood.  She served as a teacher at Lyman Hall Elementary School for 43 years.  Mrs. Simmons was a born again Christian and member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church where she taught the ladies Sunday school class and sang in the choir.  Mrs. Simmons loved spending time with her family, taking care of others, and serving the Lord. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ray Q. Simmons, parents, Gordon Hunt and Ollie Abernathy Hunt, and son, Jerry Leon Simmons.

She is survived by daughter Deborrah Dale of Lula, son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Delma and Frieda Simmons of Lula, and daughter-in-law Marie Simmons Taubel of Gillsville.  She is survived by nine grandchildren, Scott Simmons of Jefferson, Barry and Tonya Simmons of Lula, Craig and Margie Simmons of Maysville, Kelly and Carlos Lerma of Gillsville, Amy and Steven Cochan of Lula, Niki and Chuck Gray of Roswell, Brandon and Amelia Simmons of Atlanta, Eric and Ashley Dale of Gillsville, Rev. Chad and Mandy Dale of Gainesville, and numerous great grandchildren. 

The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff and management of the Manor House of Gainesville and the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice for their compassionate care given to our loved one.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Timber Ridge Baptist Church.   Rev. Delma Simmons, Rev. Dwayne Ryals, Rev. Chad Dale, and Rev. Howard Payne will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 9, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
