Mrs. Mary Phyllis (Wade) Anderson

April 20, 1932 ~ April 28, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old


Phyllis Wade Anderson passed away peacefully Friday, April 28, 2017 at Lanier Village Estates after an extended illness.  Phyllis was born in Vienna, Illinois on April 20, 1932 but spent her formative years in Metropolis, Illinois.  She graduated from the University of Illinois with a nutrition degree and later, she interned in San Francisco through Stanford University attaining her registered dietitian license.

After attaining her license, her job search took her to Jacksonville, Florida where she worked at Duval County Hospital.  There she met her husband of 49 years Dr. Robert H. Anderson, Jr. who was a resident in general surgery.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Cecil E. Wade and Verna Cockrel Wade of Metropolis, Illinois and her husband, Dr. Robert H. Anderson, Jr. 

She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Jack Henry, of Valdosta, Cheryl Harr of Gainesville and Susan and Ronald Bracewell of Gainesville; eight grandchildren, Wade (Annabelle) Henry of Valdosta, Zac Henry of Atlanta, Reynolds Henry of Birmingham, Alabama, Taylor (Tiffany) Bracewell of Atlanta, Andy Bracewell of Gainesville, Jake Bracewell of Gainesville, Madeline Harr of Gainesville and Logan Harr of Gainesville, sister and brother-in-law Ann and Lindell DeJarnette, Marietta, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Phyllis and Bob moved to Gainesville in July of 1961.  Being a newcomer herself, Phyllis was passionate about the Gainesville community and especially the medical community.  She is remembered by many physicians and their families for her warmth and hospitality welcoming them to Gainesville.

Mimi, as she was referred to by her 8 grandchildren, was involved with Camp Fire Girls, Lakeview Academy mothers’ club, Gainesville First United Methodist Church where she and Bob sang in the choir for several decades and numerous other community activities.

Mimi’s family extends a special thanks to the nurses and the staff at Lanier Village Estates and the staff of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.   

The interment will be held at Alta Vista Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday April 30, 2017.  A memorial service will follow at Gainesville First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m.  The family will receive friends in the Reception Hall immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gainesville First United Methodist Church Choir Fund, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30506, or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 743 Spring Street, Gainesville, GA 30501.
