Rita Louise Thatcher Hourihan

Rita Louise Thatcher Hourihan, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 24th, 2016.

She was born on August 24, 1925.  She worked for about 14 years for the U.S. Department of Defense.  She loved to read and enjoyed live theater, movies, television, and music.  She loved especially all things Irish and for many years was a member of Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish Catholic Fraternal organization.  Rita was a faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church where she was active in church activities and sang in the choir.   

Rita was preceded in death by one daughter, two sisters, and two brothers.  Rita was the beloved center of her family and is survived by her son John Thatcher, daughters Nancie Thatcher, Kathleen Grimstvedt, and Susan Oakley.  She also will be cherished in memory by her granddaughters, Lisa McGowen and Megan Grimsley;  grandson, Kevin Oakley;  4 great-grandchildren, Adam McGowen, Skylar, Emma, and Wyatt Oakley. 

A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1440 Pearce Circle, Gainesville, GA 30501.  The family will greet friends at St. Michael from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.  Interment will be private.
