Carvill Francis Worrell passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017, with his devoted wife, Theresa, by his side.  He had recently turned 89.

Carty, as he was known to family and friends, was born on March 27, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland.  He attended Mount Saint Joseph High School and the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.  After university, he worked on the election campaign for Dwight D. Eisenhower.  He met Terry when he was serving in the army at Fort Benning, Georgia and they were married on November 1, 1954.  For the next few decades, he worked in advertising and sales for newspapers in Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana and finally, Georgia.

He and Terry moved to Alpharetta, Georgia in 1971.  They had bought a large parcel of land, which allowed Carty to pursue one of his great passions--gardening.  He spent untold hours planting and nurturing thousands of plants over many decades.

Almost immediately, he got involved in the Alpharetta community.  Together with others, he successfully fought off the construction of a second Atlanta airport in North Fulton County, thus contributing to the size and importance of Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Carty was also an enthusiastic hiker, introducing all of his daughters to the joys of backpacking in their teenage years.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa, his daughters, Linda Worrell, Tamara Stout and Judy Grimes, his son-in-laws, Peter Wraight, Bruce Stout, and Mike Grimes,  and his grandchildren, Clayton and Chris Stout and Ryan, Ian and Kristan Grimes.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 in the chapel at Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Georgia, where Carty and Theresa have lived since 2012.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Lanier Village Estates Memorial Garden Fund.
