Jack "Doc" Harper Obituary

Jack "Doc" Harper age 90 of Oakwood, Ga. died Monday December 31, 2018 in Oakwood, Ga. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am Thursday January 3, 2018 at the Little Davenport Chapel, the Rev. James Harper will officiate and burial will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night at the funeral home from 5 to 8 pm and again Thursday morning from 10 till funeral time. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to your favorite charity. 

Mr. Harper was born on October 14, 1928 in the Chestatee area of Hall county to the late Guy and Juda Warren Harper. He graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1949. He played baseball with the Industrial League and spent many afternoons on the fields at Chicopee and Gainesville Mill. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Airforce and served faithfully for 4 years in Fairbanks, Alaska. He returned home and married the love of his life, Ruth Taylor Harper and they spent 20 years together before her passing. Jack worked for the US Post office and delivered mail door to door for many years on his route along Green St. in Gainesville. Later on his route changed and he delivered mail to the residents of Chicopee Village. He retired in 1984 and loved to say that he had been retired longer than he worked. Jack was a wonderful father, loved vacations at the beach and mountains, reading and crossword puzzles and spending time with his granddaughters, Taylor and Casey. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Emmett and Hoyt Harper, brother and sister in law, Charlie and Dot Harper, sisters and brother in laws, Bonnie and Earl Free and Maureen and George Wilkes and brother in law, Don Wolfe. The family would like to thank the staff of Agape Hospice and The Waterford at Oakwood for their Kindness and Support.

Survivors include: daughter and son in law, Laurie and Todd Lovelady and daughter, Amy Hendrix (Billy) of Oakwood, Ga. Grandchildren, Taylor Lovelady of Buford, Ga. and Casey Pradilla (Jorge) of Houston, TX., great grandson, Santiago Pradilla and a sister, Bobbie Wolfe of Oakwood, Ga.
