Nell Hanes Obituary

Nell Reed Hanes, beloved wife and devoted mother, died at the age of 92 on Monday February 11, 2019.  She was born November 5, 1926 to the parents of D.T. and Ozie Reed of Chestnut Mountain, Georgia.

Nell was a graduate of Oakwood High School where she was Salutatorian and selected most popular girl in the senior class.  Nell married Myron Preston Hanes, also of Chestnut Mountain in 1946 and they enjoyed 55 years together until his death in 2002.

Nell was a lifelong resident of Chestnut Mountain until recent years and loved the people and life around "The Mountain". She was a member of Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church and a longtime and faithful friend and employee of Loyd Strickland and Crystal Farms.  Their childhood stories of life in Chestnut Mountain brought laughter and tears during each telling.

She loved her family, friends and adapted to both the joys and challenges that living a long life brings.  In recent years she moved to The Presbyterian Village in Austell, Georgia.  Nell loved, and was loved by residents and staff at The Village.

Nell measured her accomplishments in life by how well she served the Lord, her family, and friends.  By all accounts she succeeded.

She is preceded in death by her parents, D.T. and Ozie Reed, husband Myron, sister Geraldine Reed and granddaughter Kelli Pirkle.

Survivors include her daughters Jennifer "Jenny" Coile (Mac) of Kennesaw, GA; Judy Cain (Skip) of Gainesville, GA; grandson, Chris Cain (Ginger) of Baltimore, MD, two great grandchildren and sister, Myrele  Morrison of Gainesville, GA.

The family wishes to extended their gratitude and thanks to Nell's caregiver, Martina  Freeman for her kindness and love over the years.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday February 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Rev. Jeff Benefield and Rev. Brenda Thompson will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.
