Miss Shockley was one of my all-time favorite teachers. We had a good relationship.

When I was working as a server in high school and college, she and her friends would come in sometimes for dessert. They would share a huge one, all of them huddled around a small table, dipping their spoons into a mound of strawberry shortcake or a chocolate lava cake. Giggling. And still calling me "Ladybug."

Reading these lines in her obituary makes me wish we'd had the opportunity to visit since I've become an educator myself (in Massachusetts):
"Nothing gave her more pleasure than helping a struggling student to learn. She was keenly aware of learning differences and dedicated herself to finding the best way to teach an individual. She was an amazing reading teacher and had a knack for making it fun to learn."

My sincere condolences to your family. God bless you during this time of loss and remembrance. What a treasure she was to many!

I had the great honor of student teaching under Miss Shockley. She was one of the most loving teachers I have ever met. She had the softest and sweetest voice with the children. My time with her was invaluable. She will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Miss Shockley was my first grade teacher at Sardis.I can still remember her in that blue outfit on the first day of school almost forty years ago.I will never forget how sweet she was to me when I walked up to her on the first day of school and told her I wanted my Mama. She smiled at me and kindly told me that my mama would be back to pick me up later but that I had to stay with her at school for now. I didn’t like it but she made me feel better about it as a little girl who wanted her Mama. After that first day I was ok with Mama dropping me off at school as long as Miss Shockley was there. Fond memories of a sweet and great teacher!

I remember her so well. Wearing that blue pantsuit she wore often. She was so sweet to us kids. I had her as my 1st grade teacher at Sardis Elementary School. She will be missed by so many.

I saddens me to see such a wonderful lady has left us. Ms Shockley was my first grade teacher at Lanier many years ago and I still have very fond memories from being in her classroom. She truly was a blessing in my life. My prayer are with the family during this time.

Shirley was a master teacher who not only taught hundreds of children to read, but also modeled for many student teachers how to gently educate. I was honored to work with her at Sardis Elementary.

My late Mother, Hazel Souther Martin, always spoke so fondly of Miss Shirley, when they were in a ladies Sunday School class at Lakewood Church many years ago. She must have been a devoted teacher. With heartfelt sympathy to the family, Glenda Martin Brassell

I know that words are inadequate at a time like this, but I wanted you to know how very sorry my family and I are for your loss. May you find comfort in God's promise at Revelation 21: 3 and 4.
