Alfred L. Allgood (Al) passed away on December 20, 2024, at home after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Athens, GA, on August 12, 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Runette Allgood.
He is survived by his son, Kyle Allgood; daughter, Melissa Allgood; brother, Andrew Allgood; grandchildren, Graylon Allgood, Ragan Allgood, and Isabella Allgood; partner in life and best friend, Deborah Wright.
Al graduated from Gainesville High School in 1962, where he was an active member in the Key Club. He attended Emory at Oxford where he made special friends as well as fond memories. He continued his education at Emory University where he played mid field for Emory’s Soccer Team.
Following graduation from Emory, he served two years in the U.S. Navy shipping out from San Diego, California, aboard the USS Canberra. Many years after his service, he was able to enjoy annual trips across the United States as a member of the USS Canberra Reunion Association where he reminisced with shipmates.
After serving in the Navy, he graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law. He returned to Gainesville to pursue his law career. He had a long and notable career spanning decades, including serving as Solicitor and later Judge Pro Tem for Hall County Juvenile Court. His favorite part of practicing law was handling adoption cases. He truly enjoyed being a part of uniting children with parents.
In his younger years, he loved to water ski and spent many hours in the woods and fields hunting game with family and friends. His love for soccer extended beyond playing at Emory. He was greatly involved in laying the foundation for the game of soccer in North GA. He coached youth soccer teams a number of years. One of his favorite things was driving his 350Z and keeping it in top condition. He was a die-hard Georgia fan, always looking forward to football season.
Al never met a stranger. No matter where he was, he would strike up a conversation with anyone and was truly interested in getting to know them. A favorite place to do this was Two Dog Cafe. His home away from home where he made many friends who were like family to him. He loved being around people and having a good time filled with joking and laughter. He was not one for formality and would want those who knew him to remember him by doing the same in his memory. For those wishing to make a donation in his memory, please consider Parkinson’s research.
