Billy E. Smith, Jr.

Billy E. Smith, Jr., 60 of Gainesville passed away Wednesday April 26, 2023.

Billy began work at an early age. He worked at the "Big Bear Cafe", Oakwood Auctions, as a Mechanic's Helper, Hyatt Auto Parts, as a Custodian, then a Library Assistant at Lyman Hall Elementary. Quite often he worked two jobs, one in the day and another at night. He later worked at Lyman Hall as the Computer Lab Manager. His last job was at Hall County Library.

Billy was beloved wherever he worked. He especially loved muscle cars and reading. I knew Billy first as a student in 7th grade at North Hall High School. He became part of our family. My children would exchange gifts at Christmas with him. There are many adjectives to describe Billy and all of them would show the character he bestowed. He left this world way too early but left his mark wherever he was. (Dr. Crandall J. Autry).

Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Deaton Smith, uncle and aunt, Donald and Andrea Smith, aunt, Mildred Tilley, all of Gainesville. A number of cousins and other family members also survive.

Billy is preceded in death by his father, Billy E. Smith, Sr.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Milton Harris will officiate. Interment will follow in the New Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday April 28 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
