Col. Mark Creviston Obituary

Colonel Mark S Creviston (U.S. Army retired) passed away on August 15, 2025, in Gainesville, GA. Mark was born on July 31, 1935, in Marion, Indiana, to Mark and Marcella Creviston. Mark earned a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois, graduated in 1957 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Mark married Nancy Tomm on August 24, 1957, at Delavan Methodist Church in Delavan, Illinois. And for the next sixty-six years, Mark and Nan lived an astonishing life together.

Mark was a true Renaissance man – a family man, a soldier, a Purple Heart recipient, an Eagle Scout, a teacher, a lover of music, a Christian, a writer – there was nothing Mark could not do. He was generous and gracious - Mark always ensured that others had what they needed to thrive. He held high standards for those around him, never settling for less than what he knew people to be capable of. He had a laugh that you could hear from a mile away and a smile that would touch your heart. He was funny and charming. Everyone wanted to be Mark’s friend. To be loved by Mark Creviston was an indescribably great gift.

Mark was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy. Mark is survived by his brother Bob Creviston (Susan), sister Betsy Hall (Jan), daughter Kathrine (John), and sons Mark (Pearl) and Tomm (Marion). Affectionally called “Papaw” for years, Mark had four grandchildren who loved him fiercely. He was “Great Pop” to nine great-grandchildren, and he was truly a great pop.

A memorial will be held at Lanier Village Estates Chapel, Gainesville, Georgia at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 27, 2025. Mark will be buried at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia Thursday August 28 at 10:00 a.m. with Full Military Honors.

Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to the Samaritan’s Fund at Lanier Village Estates and to Pruitt Hospice.
