Dorthy (Burtz) Freeman

Dorthy Burtz Freeman, age 97, passed away March 27, 2021 at North East Georgia Medical Center following a brief period of declining health.

Dorthy was born November 19, 1923 to the late Gordon and Artie Burtz of Forsyth County Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Flora Burtz, and her sister and brother-in-law, Daisy and Harold Whiting, and a daughter-in-law, Cyndi Freeman.

Surviving "Dot" is her husband of almost 70 years, Lawrence G. Freeman, and sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Glenda Freeman of Dawsonville, Terry Freeman of Winston- Salem, NC, and Rick and Paula Freeman of Dunwoody. Surviving grandchildren are Emily (Robbie) Reed of Austin, Tx, Hollis (Michael) Reardon of Houston, TX, Anice (Jonathan) Watson of Knoxville, TN., Christopher (Nicki) Freeman of Charlotte, NC, and Wren Freeman of Bryson City, NC.  She is also survived by Great grandchildren Betsy and Molly Reed, Grayson and Olivia Freeman, and Archie Joe Watson. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Florene Shore and Barbara Freeman and many nieces and nephews. She loved them all.

Dorthy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Gainesville and taught children's Sunday School there for many years. 

She was Salutatorian of her High School graduating class and was a very accomplished seamstress.  She could make her own wardrobe and anything she put her mind to.  She loved her family and supported them in every way.  She was at every ball game, Church event, or Scouting event that her boys participated in.

She was a Great Mom. We love her and miss her.

The family will have a private graveside service at Memorial Park now and a memorial service at a later date.
