Dr. William Henry White, Jr.

Dr. William Henry White, Jr. was born and raised in Greenville, North Carolina. He was the son of William and Lillian White and preceded in death by his sister, Anne.

After graduating as valedictorian of Greenville High School, Dr. White pursued his undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, graduating in 1951 with an AB degree in Chemistry. He then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill in 1955 with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. White moved to Greenville, South Carolina to complete a rotating internship and Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Greenville General Hospital, interrupted by his service as a Lieutenant and Medical officer in the U.S. Navy for three years (1956-1959).

Upon completing his residency training in 1962, Dr. White moved to Gainesville, Georgia to join the Obstetrics and Gynecology practice of Dr. John Burns and participate in the growth of what is now the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, serving as its Chief of Staff in 1983. Dr. White devoted his life to his medical practice, always striving for excellence and caring for his patients with diligence and compassion.

After enjoying a long and successful career as a leading Obstetrician and Gynecology physician in Gainesville, Dr. White retired in June 1994. During his career he was a part of bringing more than 6,000 children to life in this world, and therefore being a generational part of many Northeast Georgia families.

Dr. White was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Georgia OB/GYN Society, American Fertility Society, Southern Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, American Medical Society, Ninth District Medical Society and Hall County Medical Society. He was also a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.

On June 27,1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Frances Bendall White in Greenville, North Carolina. They were married for 67 years. He is survived by his wife, Frances White; his sons and daughters-in-law, Will and Tricia White, of Gainesville, Steve and Julie White, of Roswell, Georgia, and Todd and Kathy White, of Greer, South Carolina. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family will hold a private burial service for Dr. White at a later date.
