Elaine Maggart Elrod of Oakwood passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, surrounded by friends.
Elaine was born to Henry and Maurice Maggart in Lebanon, Tennessee. She attended high school in Lebanon Tennessee and married the love of her life, John Elrod, soon after graduating high school. The couple relocated to Oakwood GA in 1972.
Elaine loved to knit and cook. She enjoyed making intricate knitted sweaters, scarves, and baby caps. She was recognized for her delicious cooking, and her coconut cake was very popular. She was a registered nurse and cared deeply for her patients and friends. Elaine’s house was often a refuge for dogs and cats with which she devoted much of her time and love. Even after the passing of her husband, Eastern Airlines pilot Captain John Elrod, Elaine remained in close contact with the small group of former aviators and their families. Elaine started her nursing career on the pediatric floor at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and ended her career as a psychiatric nurse at Gwinnett Medical Center.
Surviving her are her grandson, Frederick John Jackson of Massachusetts, and her granddaughter, Jennifer Elaine Jackson of California. She was predeceased by her husband, John Elrod, and her daughter, Lee Ann Elrod.
Special thanks to the staff at Beehive Assisted living, Paige Owens Nurse Practitioner Longstreet House Calls program and Northeast Georgia Hospice for providing an exceptional level of care.
Elaine would wish to recognize the care and devotion of her dear friends Danny Webb and Nancy Quinn, for their years of love and attentiveness through her long illness.
A private family entombment service will be held at the Singing Tower Mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, 845 W. Ridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
