Gladys Leaora Jaco, who preferred to be called Lea, was born on June 5th, 1950 near Spencer Falls, TN to Alvie Haston Jaco and Jimmie Leaora Jaco (nee Stembridge). She was brought up for a time and experienced life on the farm with her seven brothers and sisters in a picturesque part of the Middle Tennessee’s portion of the Appalachian Mountains. When she was still quite young, her parents died tragically in an automobile accident. Being orphaned at a tender age, she then went to live with her siblings at Paradise Friendly Home in Graves County, Kentucky. Graves County was a place to which she would return throughout her life and her many journeys. At Paradise Friendly Home, she was brought up in the tradition of the Church of Christ. She stepped away from this tradition and pursued a more ecumenical path, attending, severally, the Episcopal, Baptist, and Assemblies of God churches. Despite exploring variegate approaches, her faith never wavered after giving her life to the Christ. She spent many years as a social worker and education administrator, working for the state of Virginia and school systems there. Lea had been utterly tormented by chronic illness in the final years of her life. She endured for so long in no small part because of her joy in being a grandmother. She departed this mortal coil and joined our Father in the embrace of Eternity on January 29th, 2025, having aged 74 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers Roger and Ray. She is survived by her only son, Nathan Lee, and her grandchildren: Jon Sebastian, Lilith Penelope, Victoria Skylar, and Eve Rose. Having professed her belief in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to her family and priest until her final days, her soul is destined to take its place in the Kingdom of Heaven, when our Lord returns to claim His Throne. Until that glorious day, her son and grandchildren are committed to keeping the flame of her memory and legacy alight.
