Henry Peter "Hank" Hassel, 87, of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Gainesville, GA, passed away Tuesday May 7, 2024 after multiple battles with cancer.
Hank was born on May 16, 1936 to Ivan and Betty Hassel. After graduating from Avon Lake High School in 1954 Hank competed in dirt track racing in the northern Ohio and Pennsylvania area for a short time. He enlisted in the Army in 1956 and served for two years. After serving in the army, he started his career as a fireman with the Avon Lake Fire Department where he worked for 25 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant and paramedic. After retiring from the ALFD, he moved to Georgia where he was employed for 20 years by Hall County Road Maintenance, retiring as a supervisor, and then worked for an additional 10 years at Strickland & Sons Pipeline. He married Leslie Gradisek on January 20, 1984, in Gainesville GA, where they have lived for over 40 years.
Hank is survived by his wife Leslie Hassel and children; Dale Hassel, Lisa Elliott, Corrine Inman, Dawn Hassel, Brian (Stephanie) Hassel, and Shelley Hassel, his brothers Tom and Jim Hassel, and sister, Marianne Dorricott, grandchildren; Heather Derise, Bianca Inman, Cole Inman, Evelynn & Logan Hassel, and Maris Holt, and great grandchildren Mason & Trevor Derise.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents Ivan & Betty Hassel and grandson Lee Valentine Hassel.
