Julianne B. Fortney, 87 of Macon, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in Gainesville, Georgia following a brief illness.
Ms. Fortney was born on March 2, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Walter VanHouten Brown and Julia Vinning Hendricks Brown of Macon, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lawrence “Larry” Alphens Fortney. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Alphens Fortney, Jr. of Waynesville, North Carolina, her daughter, Leanna Fortney Smith (Tom) of Gainesville, Georgia and her granddaughter, Julianne Taylor Smith Carscallen (Christopher) of Brookhaven, Georgia.
Ms. Fortney was a lifelong resident of Macon and a longstanding member of the Idle Hour Country Club. She graduated from Miller-Lanier High School in 1953 and attended Mercer University where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She was an avid golfer, gardener, traveler and homemaker.
