Mrs. Margaret Iona Buffington Butler went home to be with Jesus on February 7, 2026, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born on July 8, 1939, Margaret was a light to everyone she met. She was happily married to her beloved husband, Boyd, for 59 wonderful years filled with love and laughter. She always greeted others with a warm smile and was happy to see you walk through her door, no matter who you were.
Margaret, lovingly known as “Wawa” to her grandchildren, was famous for her pound cakes, buttery grilled cheese sandwiches, and broccoli casserole.
Margaret loved her family dearly and was a woman of strong, unwavering faith who lived her life as a testament to her love for Jesus. She was a lifelong member of Lebanon Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years as well as helped with events like Bible School and Childrens Day. She cherished Lebanon Methodist Campmeeting, attending every year, where she tented with her family and passed this treasured tradition on to them.
She was preceded in death by, and is now reunited in Heaven with, her beloved husband, Boyd Butler; her sisters, Syble Cooper and Willene Ramey; her brother, Joe Buffington; and her parents, Ruth and Joe Buffington.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy (Bradley) Griffin and Tara (Eric) Vandiver; her five grandchildren: Hope Griffin Fowler (Seth), Luke Griffin, Heidi Vandiver, Allison Vandiver, and Connor Vandiver; and her sisters, Janice Yonce and Virginia (Jack) Watson.
She will be truly missed by all those that love her.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Lebanon Methodist Church in Gillsville, GA with Rev. Don McElvey and Rev. Tim Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
