Marjorie Ann Strittmatter Obituary

Marjorie Ann Strittmatter passed away peacefully on Oct 31st, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Atlanta, GA.

Born in McComb, MS to Thomas (T.J.) and Hilda Wallace, Marjorie was an only child. She grew up in Paducah KY where she met and married the love of her life, James C. Strittmatter.

After graduation from Murray State University, they were both employed at the Union Carbine Gaseous Diffusion plant in Paducah which produced enriched uranium.

Later, Marjorie was employed as a schoolteacher while Jim attended medical school at the University of Tennessee. She later retired from teaching to start a family. She loved being a cub scout leader in Memphis.

The family relocated to Gainesville, Ga. when Jim became a practicing radiologist at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. She and Jim loved to travel and explored every corner of the world during their many journeys together. She always had a carry-on bag packed for spur of the moment trips.

Marjorie was active in the community, participating in many social and beneficent organizations, including serving as President of the Phoenix Society. She had a lifelong love of animals, especially dogs and horses, which she shared with her two children.

She enjoyed riding every day possible and traveled around the country and the world riding with her daughter and friends. She worked for many years at the family business, Horse and Hound Tack Shop, on the Gainesville square.

She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several ladies bridge clubs for many years. Ballroom dancing was another passion for her, and she enjoyed going to dances and taking lessons, and even was in a dancing with the stars type contest at Lenbrook to raise money for a new bus

Margie was a wonderful daughter, mother and friend and was well loved by those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and is survived by son Steven and daughter Susan, along with her favorite cousins, Mary Margaret Hevron and Lucy Preston and many wonderful friends

A huge thank you to all the amazing caregivers who helped care for her in the last few years, including Comfort,Gilda,Kisann,Lee,Marleen,Michel and Raynell.
