Mary Catherine Gibler Platt, 75, of Gainesville, Georgia, was a lifelong educator, devoted mother and grandmother, talented ballroom dancer, and passionate world traveler.
Born in Minnesota and raised in South America, Mary Catherine developed her love of exploration at an early age while traveling extensively with her parents through her father’s work with the Rockefeller Foundation. That early “travel bug” never left her—over the course of her life, she journeyed to more than 100 countries, embracing every culture and experience with curiosity and grace.
She is survived by her sister and frequent travel companion, Jan Krukar; her brother, Paul Gibler (Tom); her son, Paul Rudin (Patricia); her daughter, Valerie Rudin (Robert); and her beloved grandchildren, Joshua Ochs, Jaden Ochs, Khloe Ochs, Xander Rudin, Katarina Rudin, and Elly Rudin.
Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her sister, “Baby Girl” Gibler; her mother, Catherine Gibler; and her father, John Gibler.
Details regarding her passing and memorial service will be shared when available. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Pruitt Health Hospice of Gainesville, GA.
Mary loved life deeply—she loved to travel, to dance, and most of all, to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her compassion, elegance, dedication to education, and boundless love for family and friends will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
