Mary (Jeanne) English Zach Obituary

Mary (Jeanne) English Zach

Jeanne Zach, Age 83, of Atlanta, Georgia died peacefully on April 16, 2022.

Jeanne was born May 7, 1938 to Frank and Elsa English in Omaha, Nebraska.

Jeanne is survived by Cynthia Peek (Lee); Tamara Ghorbani-Elizeh; and Timothy Zach (Neeraj).  Grandchildren: Tara Morse, Roya Quirk, Kian and Kara Ghorbani-Elizeh, and Andrew and Priya Zach. And many nephews and nieces.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bernie, her parents, four siblings and grandson Tyler Morse.

Jeanne came from a long line of musicians and performing artists.  Her grandfather, Theodore Rudolph Reese, attained prominence as a conductor, opera singer and composer. Her mother Elsa Reese English played viola in the Omaha Symphony for over 50 years. Jeanne was a tremendous pianist with a beautiful singing voice, which she lent to choruses throughout her lifetime.  She was a long-time member of the Silvertones and the Prince of Peace choirs in Buford, Georgia.

You wanted to be careful playing cards with Jeanne, as she could be ruthless, but always with a smile on her face. She was an accomplished Bridge player, having earned Life Master rank.  She played in tournaments throughout the country, and even played across from Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. Gin Rummy was long a family favorite – Jeanne rarely lost.

Jeanne was a bundle of energy with an out-sized presence in any room she graced.  She attracted and welcomed attention.  She was always well-coifed, and enjoyed wearing colorful outfits with palette-matching shoes and fingernail polish. Jeanne was quick with a joke and generous with her laughter. She never met a stranger, nor a dessert she didn’t love.

Jeanne was devoted to her family and to her Catholic faith throughout her life.

Services will be held at Saint Andrew Catholic Church (675 Riverside Road, Roswell, Georgia) on Monday, May 9th at 10:30 A.M.  Internment will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at a future date.
