Marya Leatherwood

Marya Leatherwood of Gainesville died peacefully on March 30, 2022 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta after a short illness.  She was 71.

Marya had a rewarding career in higher education, serving as a professor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and as both a professor and Administrator at the University of Illinois at Springfield.   She also served in administrative roles at Gainesville State College and at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, returning to Gainesville after her retirement in 2016.

A close friend and colleague described Marya in this way: "Our dear Marya, so smart and generous in deed and spirit...elegance, grace, fun, goodness, leadership-such a wonderful friend."

Marya is survived by her husband of 33 years, Alan Monson of Gainesville and by Marya's pride and joy, their daughter, Dr. Catherine Wallace of Greensboro, North Carolina, both of whom were at her bedside as she passed from this world to the next.

Memorial Service will be held at Little and Davenport Chapel on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 4:00pm
