Maxine Harrison Obituary

Mrs. Maxine “Little Granny” Harrison, 82, of Gainesville, Ga, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 25th, 2022 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday December 28th @ 3:00 pm @ Timber Ridge Baptist Church with interment to follow at the church cemetery. The Rev. Chad Dale, Rev. Kody Rylee, Rev. Chris York, Rev. Alvin Burns, and Rev. Robert Nix will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday December 27th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Little Davenport Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harrison was born on May 28th, 1940 to the late Armar Gaden McNabb and Estell Shelnut McNabb. She married her best friend and soulmate, John Douglas Harrison on August 30th, 1958. They have been happily married for 64 years. Maxine was a loyal member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church and Ladies’ Goodwill Circle. She served on the board for Hall County Parks and Recreation. She was a tireless worker as, over the years, she held positions at Walmart, East Hall High School Cafeteria, Mama Ruth’s Catering and Lanier Raceway, all in addition to helping her husband run their poultry farm.

Little Granny loved to have a good time. Her home was always open, from hosting preachers for Sunday afternoon lunch, to late night card games, and Christmas morning breakfast. She served Christmas morning breakfast to an abundance of family and community members for 40+ years. This Christmas she was served by the Master. She was known by her sass, her wit, and her willingness to love boldly. To know Little Granny was to love her. “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14:1.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Truman and Dig McNabb, and her sisters Virginia and Grace McNabb.

Mrs. Harrison is survived by her husband of 64 years, Doug Harrison of Gainesville; her son Pete Harrison and wife Tammy of Gillsville; her daughter Kellie Smith and husband Bobby of Gainesville; her daughter Nancy Harrison of Gainesville; her grandchildren, or as she would say, “Her Little Darlings,” , Mandy and Rev. Chad Dale of Gainesville, Christy and Justin Smith of Murrayville, Ashley and Eric Dale of Gillsville, Allie and Josh Burns of Gillsville, and Alex Strickland of Gillsville; her great-grandchildren, Luke, Emma, Marleigh, Ella, Anna, Harper, Millie, Grant, and Chloe. Many cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Little Granny was so excited about the work being done in support of the young people at her home church. To honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Timber Ridge Baptist Church playground fund.
