Myra Harris Obituary

Myra Harris passed away on December 27, 2020. She was born on October 17, 1934 to Edith and Buren Bagwell in Canton, Georgia.

Myra was married to Owen Harris for 48 years until his death in 2003. She was a proud graduate of Canton High School and Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College and State University) in Milledgeville. Upon graduation, she returned to Canton to teach at her high school alma mater where she met Owen. Myra and Owen relocated to College Park, GA where Myra focused on raising their two sons, Eddie and Tim. She later returned to the classroom, teaching business education at Lakeshore High School. Myra was passionate about music, and she sang in the choirs of College Park First United Methodist Church and Gainesville First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the prestigious Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and the Robert Shaw Chorale. Myra had the voice of an angel and a disposition to match. She always saw the best in everyone she met. She lived her faith every day of her life. Myra “did justice, loved kindness, and walked humbly with her God.”

In addition to her parents and husband, Myra was predeceased by her brothers, Randall Bagwell and Wayne Bagwell, Sr., both of Canton, GA, and her sister, Betty Dowell of Athens, AL. She is survived by her sons, Eddie (Cindy) of Birmingham, AL, and Tim (Kathy) of Charlotte, NC; grandsons Matthew (Virginia) of Montgomery, AL, Thomas (Kate) of Birmingham, AL, and Will (Rob) of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Amanda Huffman (Mark), of Dallas, TX; and great-grandchildren Elise and Marian Harris of Montgomery, AL, and Sam Harris of Birmingham, AL.
