Paul Dewey Williams, 76, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

 

He was born in Savannah, Georgia, to Dewey and Linda (Bryan) Williams, and spent his formative years in Elberton, Georgia. A graduate of The Westminster School, he also attended Emory University, both in Atlanta, Georgia. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the telecommunications industry, working in various capacities for radio stations throughout the southeastern United States before transitioning to cable television systems engineering.

 

Paul was known for his quick wit, keen intellect, and the rich, varied interests he cultivated throughout his life. A devoted fan of Motown music and the classic films and musicals of Hollywood’s Golden Age, he built a library of 35mm films, which he delighted in screening on his home projector. He was a licensed amateur radio operator from the age of 8, holding the call sign K4EE. He could most often be found at home tinkering with electronics, and he took great pride in teaching each of his children to build electronic circuit boards. He held an abiding fascination with geology and meteorology. Paul also had a deep fondness for animals and cherished the many pets that shared his life.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sheryl Williams; his four children, Kenley (John) Mayer, Mary Elizabeth (Eric) Warren, Linda (Thomas) Ramsay, and Bryan (Basia) Williams; two grandchildren, Elijah Mayer and Anna Grace Warren; and a sister, Lin Schussler-Williams.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Morgan Williams.

 

Interment will be at Hillcrest Abbey East in Savannah, Georgia, in a private family ceremony.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hall County Animal Shelter, 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30507.
