Rev. Howell Smallwood

Rev. Howell Smallwood, 94 of Gainesville, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020 at his residence. 

Rev. Smallwood was a lifetime resident of Hall County and worked at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for over 30 years.  He served in the Navy and as a Pastor for over 70 years. He was a Mason and member of the Murrayville Lodge #30.  Rev. Smallwood was the 1st Hall County Tax Commissioner, serving two terms. 

Rev. Smallwood is preceded in death by his mother, Era Helton Smallwood; his wife, Frankie Ingram Smallwood; son, Dan Smallwood; brothers, John Smallwood, Charles Smallwood, and T. J. Smallwood; sisters, Jessie Faye Helton and Texie Mae Clark. 

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Marty and Sharon Smallwood, Sr. Tommy and Sonya Smallwood, all of Gainesville; grandchildren, Kelli Forrester, Dana Rockwell, Kimberly Pearson, Marty Smallwood, Jr., Cresha Hollis; great-grandchildren, Chancey, Troy, Mackenna, Brody, Gage, Jaxon, Jordyn, Kelan, Hunter, and Owen; sisters, Almeda Allison, Janet Wiley, Nell Chapman; brother, Horace Smallwood; and a host of other relatives.   A special thanks to James Arthur for his loving care.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday February 5, 2020 at Dewberry #2 Baptist Church.  Rev. Terry Head and Rev. Robert Nix will officiate.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday February 4, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m.
