On Monday January 22nd, Ricky Dewayne Ayers, husband, father, and friend, lost his battle with cancer at age 63.
Born in White County, Georgia to Noel and Mary Lou Ayers, Ricky graduated from White County High School, where he played trumpet in the marching band. Ricky was a compassionate and faithful lover of Jesus and went on many youth group mission trips with his kids to south Georgia, Montana, and Canada. He also used his carpentry skills to serve Orphanage Emmanuel in Guaimaca, Honduras. For 45 years, he set the example for faithful hard-work at the same company in Norcross, GA. On his days off, he spent time fixing, building, or figuring out just about anything. But his favorite pastime was adventuring with his family. Together they traveled the country, exploring the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, the Northeast, the Smoky Mountains, and the South Carolina low-country, a family favorite. Above all, Ricky’s beautiful wife and children were his life’s pride and joy. Together, they built a home and a legacy of invitation and gathering.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Anne, his daughter, Amanda, and his son, Robert.
The family will be receiving friends and family on Friday, January 26th from 5:30pm to 8pm at The Highlands UMC, 3678 Cleveland Highway, Gainesville, Georgia 30506. A celebration of Ricky’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 27th at The Highlands UMC.
