Steve Roper

Steve Roper, 70 of Gainesville passed away Friday August 22, 2025 at Northeast Georgia Medica Center-Gainesville.

A lifelong resident of Hall County, Steve was the son of the late Therman Clay and Jimmie Lou Davidson Roper.

Steve was in the building construction and remodeling business for most of his life and was a carpenter by trade. He was the owner and operator of his own remodeling business, named and licensed as “The Cookin' Carpenter”.

For the last 20 years, Steve had also been a radio co-host for local radio station WDUN on Saturday mornings “Home Matters” show which was earlier known as “The Home Improvement Show”. Steve was a graduate of the first graduating class at Johnson High School, Class of 1973. After graduation Steve attended West Georgia College.

He loved his family and pets, and he fed and took care of all the wildlife around his house. A big Georgia Football fan, nobody could do the Dawg Bark like he could. You never saw Steve Roper without a hat on.

Steve loved cooking for his family and friends and was also a winner of a chili cooking contest. He also enjoyed camping and trout fishing.

A devout Christian, Steve believed he would be with Jesus when he was called to leave this earth.  He grew up attending Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Jan Hill Roper, brothers, Tim Roper and Brian Roper, sister, Melissa Roper Locke. A niece, Julie and nephew, Brian, great nephew, Atticus and great nieces, Percy Jane, and Hope also survive.

Steve is preceded in death by a nephew, Sam.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday September 25, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Len Land will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions please be made to Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, 845 West Ridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30501 or one's favorite charity in memory of Steve.
