Obituary

Susan Dianne Hurst of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on February 9, 2021 at the age of 65.  She was born to Robert and Shirley Bowden on July 17, 1955, in New Orleans, Louisiana where her father was stationed in the military.  They later relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where Susan and her two sisters, Laura and Mary, were raised.  Susan graduated from Sandy Springs High School and attended Mercer University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Susan was a vivacious, kind-hearted individual who touched the lives of all she knew.  During her life she served in many roles from full-time mom to private business owner.  She had many passions but none more important than her family who delighted in her storytelling and gregarious laughter.  She loved adventure, traveling the world, holiday celebrations, and every spare minute of her time was dedicated to her grandchildren.

Susan is survived by her mother: Shirley Bowden; significant other Jim Gray; three children: Lyndsey Rudder (Bennett); Kathryn Hurst; and Christopher Hurst (Lorelei); step sons: Chad Gray (Carson); Jared Gray; Jimmy Gray (Kaitlyn); grandchildren: Tripp and Maclin Rudder, Maddox Hurst; step grandchildren: Cooper and Colton Gray; Jaxon, Makalya and Amelia Gray.  sisters: Laura Bowden (Terry) and Mary Bowden Page (Gary); nephews: Cory and Hayden Page; step nephews and nieces: Charlie Gray, Michelle Shaw, Jennifer Burch, Jason and Trisha Gray;

She was preceded in death by her father: Robert Bowden; her beloved grandparents: Raymond and Opal Bowden; and John and Edith Samuels; and her favorite dogs Harley and Haley.

The family will hold a virtual celebration of life to honor Susan on Sunday, February 21, 2021, from 3:30-5:00 p.m.  We invite all to join the live memorial service.  A Zoom link to the celebration and a recording of the service can be accessed through the website: http://www.rememberingsusanhurst.com
