Virginia (Tarpley) Smith

Virginia Tarpley Smith, 89 of Gainesville passed away peacefully on Monday May 3, 2021. Virginia was born in Jackson County on September 24, 1933 to the late Loy and Ruth Tarpley.  

She is the former owner of Mama Ruth's Kitchen in Gainesville which they sold in 1995.  Virginia then became a successful real estate agent working with many families over the years to help them purchase, in many cases, their first home, before retiring in 2017.  She spent her last years enjoying her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Alton, her grandson Stephen Shane Smith, parents, and brother Billie Tarpley.

She is survived by her children, Sharon (Glen) Pirkle, Jim (Peggy) Smith, Steve Smith, Bobby (Kellie) Smith, Sandy (Tim) Akins; grandchildren, Stephanie (Barry) Millwood, Jeremy (Jeanette) Pirkle, Shea (Brent) Garrett, Tabitha (Jacob) Hale, Brittany Dial, Devon Dial, Dr. Parker (Dr. Cristina Elstad) Smith, Dr. Lindsay (Dr. Paul) Henkel, Amanda (Chad) Dale, Christy (Justin) Smith, Melissa Akins, Meghan Bates and Ahrhyan Akins; sister and brother-in-law, Bud and LaQuita Lunsford; sister-in-law, Sybil Tarpley; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Junior and Ila Mae Grizzle and sister-in-law, Wilma Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. 

The family will receive friends on Monday May10, from 4-8 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday May 11 at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Chad Dale, Rev. Chip Woodall and Jeremy Pirkle officiating.  Interment will follow at Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
