Wanda (Rail) Dowdy

Wanda Sue Rail Dowdy passed away on August 9, 2022.  Wanda was born to John and Frankie Ruth Rail on May 7, 1940. 

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of sixty-one years, Bob Dowdy; brothers, Jerry Rail, Bobby Rail, and nephew Tim Rail.  

She is survived by her children, Mark (Michelle) Dowdy, and Andrea Dowdy; grandchildren, Kevin (Tori) Cerbone, Caroline (Jeremy) Lemon, Graham Dowdy, and Macy Dowdy; great grandchildren, Cadence Lemon, and Leon Cerbone. 

Wanda graduated from Lyman Hall High School and was employed in various secretarial positions through the years.  She retired from Brenau University in 2004, having served as Secretary for the Humanities Department for 22 years.  Wanda was a member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville for forty-four years and was a founding member of the Friendship Sunday School class.  She was also a member of the Sanctuary Choir for many years. 

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00am at Little and Davenport Chapel, with visitation at 10:00am prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Music Ministry, or the charity of one’s choice.
