December 28, 1930 ~ January 27, 2024 (age 93) 93 Years Old

William A. Todd Obituary

William (Bill) Alexander Todd died on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in Gainesville, Georgia.  He was 93.

He was born on Dec 28, 1930, in Queens, New York, to Agnes Young Todd and Robert Drysdale Todd.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Joanne Clark Todd.

He is survived by his wife Cindy White Todd of Gainesville, Georgia, his son Steve and his wife Kathi, three grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Brian, Cameron and her husband Kyle, Jordan and her husband Carter, four great-grandsons, Clark, James, Jack, and Carson, as well as nieces Anna Peltier and Deborah Todd and their spouses.

Bill served in the US Navy from 1951-1955 on the USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier and later on the USS Irex submarine.  This was a life he loved and spoke of many times. It also fueled his lifelong love of the sea.

He graduated from Hofstra University and worked for ATT in New York.  Soon after, he joined Western Electric as an engineer for defense systems. It was then that our family relocated to North Carolina and eventually to Sunset Beach, North Carolina, in 1974.  There, he and our family spent many hours boating on the Intracoastal waterways, fishing, and simply enjoying God’s creation.  He enjoyed the beach up to his 90th birthday celebration.

This wonderful man was my dad.

As an avid cyclist, he often cycled across our state. He and I spent many weekends riding the Multiple Sclerosis 150 from Charlotte to the coast.  He also received a Senior Olympic medal for cycling.  His claim to fame was being interviewed by the local TV station in Charlotte for his biking.

His other loves were baking(desserts), especially our Todd Family Shortbread from the recipe passed down from his father, a baker in Dundee, Scotland.   Our family continues this tradition every Christmas to this day.

Dad was loved by all of us, and he knew that he was loved greatly.   Dad was a man of faith and not only talked the talk but walked it as well.  It was one of his special gifts to me and to our entire family as well.

I love you, Dad.  Peace, Joy, and Love
