William Thomas "Billy" Wood

William Thomas "Billy" Wood, 66 of Jefferson passed away Monday October 23, 2023, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Braselton.

Billy was born at Crawford Long Memorial Hospital on January 8, 1957. He was born an outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and fixing things. In 1973, he joined Big Horn Hunting Club where he spent a lot of his time. After school, he put his passion of fixing things into the workforce and joined United Way in 1977 as Head of Maintenance where he worked for 27 years. During this time, he was married to Perin Rigby and had their son, Michael Wood in October of 1987.

After leaving United Way, he joined Walmart as Head of Maintenance where he worked for 18 years. He retired from Walmart at the start of 2022. His passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and being Mr. Fix-it led him to his obsession for a perfectly manicured lawn where he spent a lot of his time outside. Just like God knows every hair on our head, he knew every strand of grass in his yard.

Billy is survived in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Lynn Wood; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Aransa Wood, and grandson Hayden Wood; Nephews Bucky and Brandon Wood and their families. He is also survived in death by his family of 50 years from the Big Horn Hunting Club.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville on Friday November 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., a reception will follow at the church.
