William "Wayne" Cook, 78 of Toccoa, Georgia formerly of Gainesville, Georgia passed away Tuesday February 24, 2026, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville.
Born in Hall County, Mr. Cook was the son of the late James Dewey and Ophelia Roark Cook. He was a former resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia for over 30 years before moving to Stephens County 10 years ago. Mr. Cook was a graduate of North Hall High School and was a retired driver for Marten Transportation. Mr. Cook was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Virginia "Genny" Cook, sons. Anthony Cook and Gene Cook, daughter, Melissa Cook Alford, grandchildren, Carrie Cook Halstead (Alex), Michael Cook, Shawna Alford, Madisen Alford, great grandchildren, Thorin Halstead, Samwise Halstead, Olivia Halstead, three step grandchildren, Denver Reed Welch, Grace Welch, Jessica Canova, sister, Sue Cook, brother, Tony Cook. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Cook is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, David Cook and Steve Cook.
A Celebration of life service will be held Sunday March 1, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Antioch United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bill Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
