What a great influence Curtis had on the young people that crossed his path. I am so grateful I was one of those people that called him teacher, mentor and friend. When the evening high school first started in 1995, Curtis made a point of visiting often, giving his support, encouragement and, greatest of all, his wisdom. He was a truly caring individual and will be missed greatly by the community he served so diligently.

In the 1980's while representing the Gainesville City School System I had many occasions to meet with Curtis on Gainesville High School legal issues ranging from new laws that had been passed to student disciplinary matters. We met on one matter and as Bill Coates said " Curtis could be stubborn". I sensed that on this occasion so I said " Curtis, when I was in high school I spent many times in the principal's office receiving advice from my principals. Now I'm in the principal's office giving you my advice." With that sheepish grin he quickly replied " And you better be right". I know you'll miss him.

A firm, but fair, disciplinarian who made a positive impact on the lives of so many. We are fortunate that our three children along with countless others were under his guidance and influence. Gainesville and Hall County have benefited greatly from Curtis' involvement. Rest in peace Curtis Segars.

My thoughts are with you -- his family and all those in our GHS family and wider community who knew and loved him, those entertained by his wit and deep insight, and those tamed by his strictness and gentleness. He had thousands of mentees. I am forever grateful that I was one of them.

The number of people that Curtis touched is impossible! Curtis was a true person in every sense of the word that loved life and people. Knowing that Curtis and Nell are together again is comforting for he talked about how much he missed her food. I bet he is getting his home cooked meal now... God Bless you Curtis, thank you for being so Wonderful. God just got an Amazing Man on His team. Heaven is a better place because Curtis is there...Home.

To try and calculate the number of people that this amazing man touched is impossible. Curtis was a true person in every sense of the word. He shared his love of learning, his passion for family and community with everyone he met. He epitomized the meaning of friend and we were so honored to call him friend. Knowing that he and Nell are together again is comforting but will not fill the loss in our hearts. Our community has lost a great leader, teacher, mentor, and friend. We are all better for knowing this great man. God Bless you Curtis and may the Lord hold your family in the palm of his hands and bring them comfort.

So grateful for the privilege of having Curtis Segars as a teacher and friend. I was one of many that he influenced in a positive way. Due to his guidance and challenge, I went on to college and became a teacher. Of course, part of the challenge involved him making me mad enough to do it, and he always enjoyed reminding me that he "told me so"!
