He certainly left his footprints everywhere-in homes, at work, in his community and on the hearts of all fortunate enough to be family or friends. I count myself blessed to have known Deke & laughed with him & admired his service to others. My deepest condolences to all of you

Jo, Beth and Mike, very sorry to hear about Deke's passing. Although he was a little order than me growing up in the old neighborhood I do remember him and his bright red jeep pulling Mr. Green's old car out of the garage. Even then it was evident of his
desire to help others. My thoughts are with you and the family. God Bless

I am so sorry to hear of your husband's death. I remember you both sitting at our table at one of the mini reunions. It was nice to visit with you both even though it was brief. Take care of yourself. Gayle

I love seeing the picture here! I would have know him immediately if I met him on the street as he still so much the same. We pretty much grew up together and our families were friends and I'm sorry we lost touch over the years, but I knew what was going on with Deke. He was successful and obviously much loved. My condolences to Jo, Beth and Mike and to everyone in his family.

I knew Deke as a child growing up, sharing fun times at our grandparents home. He was a very special person and my loss is not having time to share our past memories with him. I know the pain and sorrow that fills your lives today, but I also know the joy for having had the years to learn from him, to share love and life with him.
My prayer is the happy times remembered will overshadow this time of sorrow.

Thank you to Deke's family for supporting him as he worked tirelessly for Seniors. He was kind, positive, hard working and always an advocate for our older citizens. There was always a smile from Deke to brighten your day! He taught me many things and I admired him very much. Peace to you all.

Deke meant so much to so many people. I will never think of the Senior Center or Meals on Wheels without him coming to mind. He was the GPS for that program for so many years. He cared about people and would do anything to help someone.

We worked together in the same building for many years and he kept a gallon of his homemade tea to share with everyone. He always had a smile and uplifting words.

He was a good man. I have lost a friend.

Marie, my heart is heavy and filled with sadness for you and your family. Deke was such a good friend and caring soul. He was one member of my city family I could always depend on. We serve together on the Community Trust Fund together and his compassion for others ran deep into his being. I'm confident your family has many special memories that will help comfort you in the days ahead. May God's love be with you, Hugs, Jill

Deke was such a special man. I delivered meals every Friday for several years when Deke was working at the Center. All the seniors thought the world of Deke...any time there was a problem, day or night, Deke could always be counted on to help. Often my son, Jesse, (who was about 3) would accompany me. Jesse and Deke were best buds! Deke got Jesse a little cooler for him to deliver the milk in. Rest in peace, Deke...you will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Deke and I graduated together as Red Elephants from Gainesville High School a "few" years ago. We will all miss him and especially his great sense of humor that always kept us from getting too serious about ourselves. See you in Heaven Deke!!

I knew Deke in high school as a red elephant when I moved to Gainesville in our senior year. There were so many new faces to meet and names to learn. I met Deke early on and remember him for his friendliness and kindness to a new girl in town. Hard to believe how long ago that was and yet it seems like just yesterday. He was obviously still a young man.

On Nov. 21, 1965, Zeke was a member of our wedding party, along with other good friends Ed Rich and Jim Propes. They are all gone now, but we will forever hold them in our memory. Deke was such a kind hearted friend with a great sense of humor. He kept us laughing all the time. Our sincere condolences to the family. He will be missed by all who knew him. May the peace of Heaven be with you, Deke, until we meet again, old friend.

Coach Richards was a great man I was 14yrs old when he coach Lyman Hall School's first football team that they ever had. That was in 1968 we went on to win the hall county championship with only one lost the whole year.and coach Richards was the main ingredient to the whole season. And my heart and praye5 the family and may GOD richly bless you all in years to come.
