Grace Nell Hewell

January 11, 1933 ~ December 1, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old


Grace N. Hewell, 83, of Gillsville, passed away Thursday December 1, 2016 after a long and hard battle with ovarian cancer.  Grace was born in Gillsville on January 11, 1933 to the late Floyd and Minnie Wilson.

Grace was well known for her love of the color red, her church and family.  She worked at Hewell’s Pottery alongside her husband, Harold Hewell, until she became unable to do so.  Her pottery has been and still is currently being displayed in many museums around the country.  Grace was known to family and employees as Granny.  Mrs. Hewell attended Gillsville Baptist Church for most of her life.  She was head of the cemetery committee for a number of years being very diligent in the care of it.

The family would like to thank her brothers, sister and sister-in-law’s, her church family, pastor and former pastor’s for their help in this very trying time.   We would also like to especially thank Mrs. Blanche Agans for her kind and tender care when it was most needed and all of the close friends that have visited and sat with her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hewell is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hewell, brother; Horace Wilson, sister; Myrtle Wilson Cagle and brother-in-law, Larry Doug Roberts.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Chester and Sandra Hewell of Gillsville, grandsons and grand-daughter-in-law, Matthew and Amanda Hewell of Gillsville, Nathaniel Hewell of Gillsville, great-grandchildren; Eli and Susannah Hewell of Gillsville, brothers and sister; Howard and Rachel Wilson of Maysville, Harvey and Sadie Wilson of Gillsville, sister; Virginia Wilson Roberts of Gillsville.

Visitation will be Saturday December 3, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday December 4, 2016 at Gillsville Baptist Church the Rev. Shannon Rhodes, Rev. Bradley Elliot and Rev. Tim House officiating, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Gillsville Baptist Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 416 Gillsville, GA  30543, in Grace’s memory.
